Oregon Eye Specialists’ Vision to Serve – Dr. Dr. Vasiliki D. Stoumbos
Throughout this season of giving, we want to honor our providers who have given their time serving in a variety of surgical outreach opportunities, both near and far. Our global outreach includes Dr. Zoey Stoumbos joining the team in January 2020, who has volunteered with Medical Teams International (formerly Northwest Medical Teams) on several trips, including ophthalmology teams to Oaxaca, Mexico (1998, 2001), and Catacamas, Honduras (2006), and a primary care team to Coban Guatemala (2011). She has also volunteered with the Hospital de la Familia Foundation, providing surgical care for patients with cataracts and glaucoma, in Nuevo Progreso, Guatemala (2017).
Dr. Stoumbos also spent a month at the Manipal Teaching Hospital in Pokhara, Nepal during medical school, with focuses on ophthalmology and rural care.
In the US, she has worked with the Lions Eye Clinic (uninsured patients), the Prevention of Blindness Society (providing educational lectures for low-vision support group), and providing free vision screenings to homeless patients through the Georgetown Eye Health Initiative.
