May Khadem, M.D
Dr. Khadem joined Oregon Eye Specialists in 2018. She is a comprehensive ophthalmologist and public health activist. She recently returned to Portland after spending 7 years in China where she assisted the development of rural eye care in several provinces. Prior to her move to China, she served on the faculty of Northwestern University Department of Ophthalmology for 25 years.
May was one of the co-founders of Health for Humanity, a not-for-profit charitable organization where she served as the organization’s Executive Director for 17 years.
She has served as consultant to many international organizations active in blindness prevention including the World Health Organization, where she co-authored a leadership training manual and offered leadership training workshops for WHO’s Good Governance in Medicines (GGM) Programme in Amman, Jordan and Geneva, Switzerland as well as workshops for the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB).
Dr. Khadem graduated from Rush Medical College. She completed her residency training and two fellowships in ophthalmology at Northwestern University, and later obtained a Masters in Public Health from the University of Illinois.
