Dinelli Monson, M.D., joins Oregon Eye Specialists in August 2014. She practices at our Tualatin and Newberg clinics. Get to know Dr. Monson in her own words.
I was born in Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon. The country suffered many years of civil war, so I was unable to attend college there. But with luck and lots of hard work, I was accepted to the University of Wisconsin at Madison (go Badgers!). After completing my undergraduate degree, I attended the School of Medicine and Public Health and received my M.D. with honors.
In medical school, I was honored to receive the Glascow-Rubin Award for outstanding academic achievement from the American Medical Women’s Association. I also graduated in the top tier of my class and was elected to the medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha.
After medical school, I moved to the beautiful Pacific Northwest for an ophthalmology residency and surgical training at Casey Eye Institute, OHSU. During residency, I completed many research projects and was the lead author of many articles published in ophthalmology journals. I am board certified in ophthalmology.
I am a general ophthalmologist, meaning I care for patients with all types of eye conditions, including glaucoma, macular degeneration and cataracts. I am also an experienced cataract surgeon and have greatly enjoyed teaching cataract surgery to residents at Oregon Health & Science University’s Casey Eye Institute. The care I provide includes:
- General eye exams
- Cataract diagnosis and treatment
- Glaucoma diagnosis and treatment
- Macular degeneration diagnosis and treatment
I also treat eye infections, allergies, dry eye and more.
My philosophy of medicine
My own experiences as a patient have shaped my philosophy of medicine. What do I want in a doctor? I want my voice heard. I want an outstanding physician and surgeon who is familiar with the latest treatments and medications, someone who treats me kindly and truly cares about my health. I want this kind of care for my family and myself, so I work hard to provide it for my patients.

When I’m not at Oregon Eye Specialists…
As a wife and mom of three, I find my family is a continuing source of inspiration. We love to garden, go on long hikes or just walk our dog Eddie around the neighborhood. I feel very fortunate to live and practice in such a beautiful area, and look forward to meeting my Oregon Eye Specialists patients.
