Aging Skin Conditions
Whether on the forehead, between the brows, or around the mouth or eyes, wrinkles form as a reflection of years of showing expression, and really just plain living. Our chin and cheeks lose volume and contour and accompanying age spots are quick to show our age. The culprit is mainly a loss of collagen and elastin that sit below the skin surface and start to break down as we age. But environmental factors such as sun damage, smoking, and poor nutrition can also have an impact.
Dr. Palileo is proud to provide non-surgical skin repair options that are quick, relatively pain-free, and help restore healthy skin and a youthful appearance.
Aging Skin Treatments:
For lines on the forehead, between the brows, and on the outer corners of the eyes, botulinum toxins such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, offer a quick, simple, non-surgical solution.
Our experienced doctors use tiny needles to inject Botox to targeted muscles. The Botox blocks nerve impulses causing the muscles to relax and the overlying skin to flatten, smoothing out the fine lines and wrinkles. The procedure is done right in our office and requires no downtime or recovery.
The improvements can typically be seen within a few days of receiving Botox and just one 10-minute treatment can provide significant results that can last up to four months. With regular treatments, the wrinkles may stay away even longer.
Injectable fillers are an option for more stubborn signs of aging that occur in your hands, lips, cheeks, and chin. As you age the amount of naturally occurring hyaluronic acid in your skin decreases causing it to lose structure and volume and leave unwanted wrinkles and folds. Fillers are administered by a doctor through a fine needle injected under the skin to fill the soft tissue of the dermis. Volume and diminished wrinkles appear instantly. At Oregon Eye Specialists, we rely on two well known and proven facial fillers.
What is the in-clinic treatment experience like?
During your initial full face consultation visit, your doctor will spend time listening to the aesthetic concerns that you may have. Your doctor will then spend time thoroughly discussing with you the various treatment options that may be right for you.
Botox injections are administered through tiny needles so the discomfort during the injection should be minimal. Botox injections are typically performed in less than 5 minutes. Immediately after the injection, you may notice small bumps at the injection sites however these fade quickly. Your face should return to the way that it looked before the procedure within 15 minutes after the injection. It is important to keep in mind that Botox does not work immediately. The Botulinum toxin may take a few days to begin taking effect on your nerves and muscles. By the fifth day after injection, you should begin to notice a difference in the facial movements in the areas that were treated. The Botox injection will take full effect approximately 2 weeks after the injection.
During your facial filler treatment visit, your doctor will numb the treatment areas with a numbing cream. During the injection, you may feel a small stinging sensation however the facial filler used by your doctor contains a numbing agent so you may not feel the injections at all. Your doctor will work with you to make the experience as comfortable as possible. After the injections are completed, you may have common side effects such as redness, soreness, swelling, and bruising which should not last more than one week. You will notice improvement in the treatment areas immediately after your facial filler injections. These improvements can last for a few months up to a year.
Patients should avoid strenuous physical activity, facial massages or chemical peels, alcohol, applying makeup, or being under the sun too long for 24 hours after your injections. Injections should be administered only by licensed medical professionals.
Talk to your doctor about whether Botox or facial fillers are right for you, and what some of the risks may include. Get ready for brighter days ahead!
