Medical Teams International provides life-saving medical care for people in crisis, including survivors of the Rwandan genocide, the South Asia tsunami in 2004, Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and the 2010 Haiti earthquake. Dr. Stoumbos has had the privilege of traveling with Medical Teams International to do cataract surgery for residents in Mexico and Honduras. She also has volunteered at the Hospital de la Familia in Guatemala, a medical facility offering medical and surgical eye care as well as general medical, surgery, pediatric, obstetrical and dental services to the area’s poor, indigenous people. — Dr. Visiliki D. Stoumbous
