On Saturday, July 21st, 2018, Twenty volunteers from Oregon Eye Specialists participated in a Team Build Day with Portland/Metro East Habitat for Humanity
Our volunteers worked in tandem with Habitat staff to help make progress on Cully Commons, a development of 15 new affordable homes on Northeast Killingsworth Street. Cully Commons aims to provide an opportunity for residents most likely to be displaced by gentrification to stay in their neighborhood via home ownership.
Physicians and staff from Oregon Eye Specialists worked on everything from framing the house to digging waterlines. It was a truly enriching experience for the whole team.
“At Oregon Eye Specialists, we know that achieving good health means addressing social determinants of health. We provide high quality eye care, but we also want to contribute socially. Seeing our team partner with Habitat for Humanity to build homes, ultimately leads to better health, for individuals as well as our greater community” — Dr. Dinelli Monson.
