Frames that Fit Your Life
At The Sight Shop, our high-quality frames are carefully selected to be flexible enough for the best fit and vision performance but tough enough to stand up to daily use.
Eyeglass frames at The Sight Shop
The Sight Shop carries materials to fit every lifestyle and budget. Talk to your Sight Shop optician about your lifestyle and how you wear your glasses.
Frame materials include:
Plastic – Plastic frames are lightweight and available in many colors, including blends for fashion and function. Some blends make your eyeglasses invisible in your peripheral vision. Plastics are typically used for sports safety frames and can be used for industrial safety glasses, though most safety frames are metal for increased durability.
Plastics used for eyeglass frames include zylonite (also called “zyl”), cellulose acetate and nylon blends. Hypoallergenic plastics are also available.
Metal – Metal frames tend to be stronger than plastic. Most metal frames are alloys (blends of different metals) selected for qualities such as flexibility, durability or light weight. Options include:
- Monel, a metal alloy that is easily shaped and usually corrosion-resistant. Monel is used in many eyeglass frames.
- Titanium, a lightweight, very strong and corrosion-resistant metal or alloy that can be tinted for a subtle hint of color. Titanium is also hypoallergenic. Beryllium is a less expensive alternative that resists corrosion well. If you spend time at sea or other metals react with your skin, ask your Sight Shop optician about beryllium.
- Stainless steel, a lightweight, durable and reasonably priced material. Nickel-free stainless steel is hypoallergenic.
- Memory metal, a titanium alloy that bends back into shape even after being twisted or crushed. Flexon is the most common brand name for this metal.
- Aluminum, a lightweight metal that resists corrosion well. Aluminum frames are mostly produced by high-end designers for their unique look.
Specialty materials – These include wood, bone, buffalo horn and precious metals used as decoration. While they aren’t as strong, flexible or adjustable as metal or plastic, and tend to cost more, they might be perfect for a truly unique look or for special occasions. Talk to your Sight Shop optician about these specialty frames.
Helping you look your best
Frames from The Sight Shop can help you define your personal style. Your optician can help you select the best frames for your face shape, so you don’t just see better – you look better.
The best frames for your face shape
Oval – If you have an oval face, a wide variety of styles will look good on you. You might choose rounded edges to echo the curves of your face or experiment with trendier styles.
If your face is a long oval, choose frames that emphasize width rather than pulling the eye upward.
Round – If your face is round, its width and length are approximately equal. The best frames add contrast with straight lines and angles – rectangular frames are your best choice. Choose frames that are wider than the widest point on your face or details that attract the eye upward.
Avoid very large, Jackie-O style frames or strong square frames.
Diamond – A diamond-shaped face is wider in the middle, tapering at the forehead and chin. For the best proportion, don’t choose frames that extend beyond the widest point of your face. Oval or softly squared frames often flatter you.
Triangle – If you have a narrow jaw and broader forehead or cheekbones, your face is triangle-shaped or heart-shaped. Your best frames balance the angle of your jaw with details such as a metal top bar or cat-eye detailing. Glasses with a wider bottom half can help broaden a smaller chin.
Rectangle – If your face is much longer than it is wide, you could have a rectangular, oblong or long face. A round or square shape with some vertical height will visually counterbalance the rectangular shape for your best look.
Square – If your face is square, with a chin, forehead and cheekbones that are about the same width, oval or rounded frames look best on you. These shapes can soften the strong angles of a square face. Avoid angular and square styles, which don’t provide enough visual contrast.
