Dr. Monson joined Oregon Eye Specialists August 13, 2014 caring for patients with all types of eye conditions, including glaucoma, macular degeneration and cataracts. She is a highly skilled surgeon who performs many different procedures, including cataract surgery and laser procedures, applying advanced yet safe techniques with the best technology. Dr. Monson has shared this surgical expertise while teaching cataract surgery to Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) residents.
Dr. Monson earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, where she also achieved her medical degree with honors. She received multiple awards during medical school, including the Glascow-Rubin Award for outstanding academic achievement from the American Medical Women’s Association. She graduated in the top tier of her class and was elected to the medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha.
Dr. Monson moved to the beautiful Pacific Northwest for an ophthalmology residency and surgical training at Casey Eye Institute, OHSU. During residency, she completed multiple research projects and was the lead author of many articles which can be found in some of the most recognized ophthalmology journals. She is board certified in ophthalmology. She believes patients want a doctor who truly listens, treats them with kindness, and is up to date on the most current treatments. “I aim to give patients the highest standard of care—the same care I would want for myself and my family,” says Dr. Monson.
The mother of three small children, Dr. Monson loves to cook and garden. She spends any free time hiking with her husband, their kids and their small but brave dog Eddie.
