Devin Gattey, M.D., joins Oregon Eye Specialists June 3, 2013. He will practice at the Aloha and Lake Grove clinics. We asked Dr. Gattey to introduce himself to our patients.

I provide comprehensive ophthalmology care and cataract surgery. I have practiced in the Portland area for more than a decade, most recently at Casey Eye Institute, Oregon Health & Science University. There, I directed the comprehensive ophthalmology clinic and served as lead cataract surgeon.

OHSU is a teaching hospital, so I trained dozens of ophthalmology residents and led academic conferences. I’m still active in education and research as an examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology, which certifies ophthalmologists, and a reviewer for medical journals.

I grew up in San Diego and went to medical school at the University of California at Davis. I also served in Nepal as a Peace Corps volunteer. International work remains important to me, and I have participated in outreach missions to Vietnam, India, Fiji, Guatemala and other countries. At OHSU, I founded and led the International Ophthalmology Program. I also speak Spanish, which helps me communicate better with many patients here and abroad.

If you need surgery, I aim to provide you with the most advanced surgery options and personalize your eye care to meet your needs. I’m particularly interested and experienced in advanced lens implants for cataract surgery and in complex cataract surgery, such as for people who also have another eye condition. Patient education is an important part of eye health, so please feel free to ask questions. I’m happy to explain how conditions develop, what your treatment options are and much more.

In my free time, I like to cycle around the great Northwest on my road and mountain bikes, and I enjoy traveling with my wife and two sons. Family is very important to me, and I aim to treat you and your loved ones with the same compassion I would give my own family.

For my patients at Oregon Eye Specialists, I will provide comprehensive eye exams. This includes diagnosing cataracts, macular degeneration and glaucoma and treating eye infections, allergies and dry eye.

I will practice at two Oregon Eye Specialists clinics: Aloha and Lake Grove.
